Shana Hagan

Shana Hagan has photographed almost 60 documentary and narrative films, shot countless hours of documentary and reality-based television programs, and has worked with such distinguished filmmakers as Michael Apted and Jessica Yu.
Shana Hagan’s work includes Breathing Lessons, which won a 1996 Academy Award for Best Documentary Short, an Emmy and an IDA award. Hagan also shot the award-winning documentary Homeland, a film about four Lakota families living on the Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota, which also received several critical mentioned for its cinematography. Her recent work includes In the Realms of the Unreal, a film by Jessica Yu, presented in the Documentary Competition at Sundance in 2004; Sunset Story, which won Special Jury Mention at Tribeca 2003 and the Audience Award at the 2003 LAFF; and Shakespeare Behind Bars, a year in the lives of a Shakespeare acting company comprised of inmates at a Kentucky prison.
Her narrative work includes the feature film Indemnity, the short Better Late, which premiered at Sundance in 1997, and Los Angeles, which was directed by Academy Award Nominee Jessica Sanders and won Best Cinematography at the Hi Mom! Film Festival in 1999. Credits also include The Living Museum for HBO, the two-hour Georgia O’Keeffe biography for A & E, and two National Geographic specials.
Her work has been seen at major film festivals worldwide and on the television networks HBO, Cinemax, ABC, NBC, CBS, PBS, and The Learning Channel, among others. Her latest films are Homeboy, March of Living, and One Lucky Elephant. She is currently filming Rewriting Bond.
