Stephen Nichols


Schooled in the visual and performing arts, Stephen Nichols wrote, acted, directed and painted, while working in film and television in various starring and co-starring roles.

He has appeared in and/or directed numerous award winning stage productions and started an acting workshop for kids at the San Fernando Valley Juvenile Hall.

One of the most enduring stars of daytime television, Nichols currently stars at Tucker McCall in the top-rated CBS show The Young & the Restless. He has twice played Steve “Patch” Johnson on NBC’s Days of Our Lives and Stefan Cassadine on ABC’s General Hospital.

Nichols first run on Days of Our Lives earned him status as one of the most notable presences on television, second only to Bill Cosby in the TV-Q ratings, along with an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Actor in a Leading Role and five Soap Opera Digest Awards. Fans rejoiced in his return to the show in 2006 by voting for him as their favorite actor on Days of Our Lives in Soap Opera Digest, an honor he won repeatedly, along with his character winning in the favorite couple category.

He was voted among the top five favorite ABC daytime stars by fans  while on General Hospital and is one of few stars applauded by fans in paid ads in the magazine ABC Soaps in Depth. He also earned performer of the week honors by the various soap magazines on numerous occasions.

Other TV appearances include Matlock, L.A. Law, Diagnosis Murder, The Nanny, Second Chances, Sisters, a recurring role on Empty Nest and as Jesse James opposite Pierce Brosnan in the NBC mini-series Around the World in 80 Days, to name a few.

Nichols has appeared in several feature films, first co-starring with Demi Moore in Choices. He was also in Witchboard, Soapdish with Kevin Kline, Whoopi Goldberg and Robert Downey Jr., Heaven’s Tears, Cover Me with Paul Sorvino, Phoenix with Brad Dourif and William Sanderson, and the Showtime short A Hard Rain with John Mahoney which earned best film honors at the British Film Festival for director Dennie Gordon (New York Minute, What a Girl Wants).

He began his acting career in Los Angeles theater during its renaissance in the early eighties. Throughout the course of the many productions he has appeared in, Nichols has been honored with three Drama-logue and two L.A. Weekly Awards for his performances in such notable productions as Pieces of Time for his portrayal of real-life killer, Donald Bashor; for Delirious, directed by the late Ron Link; and as Jim Morrison in the last thirty-six hours of his life in The Lizard King. He starred in the USA premiere of Joe Pintauro’s A Dead Boy (for which Nichols won a MADDY Award) and  in He Hunts with Carol Kane at the Geffen Playhouse in Westwood. His most recent stage performance was Ricky Roma in Glengarry Glen Ross.

Nichols co-directed the presentation pilot Wild Horses. Get the Dime is his first film as director. He will soon direct the film Birds Do It.
